The Resistance War Backstory

Dalarian Hammerclef, Paladin, Commander of the Phoenix Legion

Age: 49

Nation of Origin: East Lordaeron

Dalarian Hammerclef was born in the nation of Lordaeron, and is old enough to have remembered the chaos and destruction wrought by the horde in the First and Second War.
In his youth he was sent by his parents to be educated by the clerics of Northshire Abbey and there he stayed until two years before the coming of the Horde. When the Horde ravaged Azeroth, he escaped and fled back to Lordaeron.
There he forsook his household and entered into the service of the Knights of Silverhand and fought bravely in the Second War against the Orcs in which both his parents and older brother, Ragon,  are killed.

Following the Second War, seeing the Alliance beginning to crumble and distraught over the loss of most of his family, Dalarian begins his study to become a paladin.

For years he studied under Uther Lightbringer and several others before achieving paladinhood.  Afterwards he became responsible for the overseeing of the orcish internment camps and the rounding up of the renegade orcs who had evaded the grasp of the Alliance. During this time, his powers wax and he becomes good friends with King Terenas and also acts as mediator between the splintered Alliance nations.

While the Alliance splinters further, Dalarian is dismissed as Overseer and is sent to Dalaran to serve as advisor to Lord Antonidas.

Foreseeing the coming war against chaos and the downfall of Dalaran and possibly even the Alliance. Antonidas releases Dalarian from his service and sends him back to Terenas in Lordaeron.  Only months before the coming of the Burning Legion, Dalarian travels to Quel'Thalas of his own accord. There he is welcomed and dwells until the coming of the Scourge. When the Scourge invaded Quel'Thalas, Dalarian is given the magical warhammer Forfkun and with it, he fights off the undead until the arrival of Prince Arthas, now a death knight in service to the Lich King.

Then Quel'Thalas was overrun and thrown down. Dalarian and a small group of his troops narrowly escape the onslaught and wander for sometime in the wilds, hunted by the Scourge.

Eventually it enters Dalarian to make for Dalaran and seek refuge and counsel there. Yet he arrives only to find the once mighty city in ruins, consumed by the undead under Arthas. From the survivors, he learns of the death of Uther, Antonidas, the downfall of Lordaeron and the murder of King Terenas.

Continually sought after by the Scourge, Dalarian eventually meets with Lord Garithos' and Lord Kael'thas. Though he resents Garithos' as a person, he is a mighty soldier and Dalarian is convinced to stay for awhile to do battle against the Scourge remaining in Lordaeron. Dalarian has little contact with Lord Kael'thas and they remain distant friends.

During a raid upon an undead encampment, Dalarians force is ambushed and seperated from the more numerous troops under Kael'thas. Though he fights valiantly, he is overwhelmed and forced to flee with what men remain to him. Kael'thas is presumed dead.

Unable to make his way back to Garithos' and the others, Dalarian rallies his force together and stakes out on his own. He makes camp deep in the Alterac mountains and evades capture by the Scourge. There he gathers all who will come to him, and his force grows great, and only late does he learn of the Battle of Mount Hyjal and the defeat of the Legion. Yet even with the Burning Legion gone, Dalarian has faced many attacks from the Scourge and in time his strength-of-arms has become worn and his camps in the mountains crumble and fall. Now has Dalarian decided to make trial of his remaining strength and strike out against the Scourge destroying his new home.

Lord Mortensen, Death Knight

Age: Unknown

Nation of Origin: Unknown

Lord Mortensen was one of the many paladins seduced by the power of the Lich King and is one of his more powerful agents. Lord Mortensen led and conducted many operations when the Scourge invaded Lordaeron. He openly despised the Dreadlord Mal'Ganis and the upstart death knight Arthas. However when Mortensen was ordered to take over Quel'Thalas, his fortunes turned against him and his army was repelled numerous times until he could continue the siege no longer.

There it was he learned that Dalarian Hammerclef, the paladin, had been the key in his defeat, he secretly plotted revenge. Though it did not fetter his anger nonetheless when Arthas was responsible for the downfall of Quel'Thalas. Mortensen's failed invasion cost him credibility with his master.

Eager to regain his status, Mortensen toke it upon himself to track down and kill Dalarian and acquire the favor of the Lich King once more. Yet never could he come close enough to Dalarian to reveal himself without his power being threatened.

When Mortensen learned that Dalarian had substantial strength in the Alterac mountains, he gathered his army to weed out Dalarian from the mountains and finally kill him once and for all.

Dragos, Captain of the Phoenix Legion

Age: 33

Nation of Origin: Northern Lordaeron

A long time soldier and defender of Lordaeron's borders.

After the fall of Dalaran, he fought a long guerilla war against the Scourge in southern Lordaeron, his tenacity and tactical prowess won him renown and when he received word of a mustering of arms in the Alterac mountains, he readily joined Dalarian in his crusade against the Undead.

In truth he wishes to succeed Dalarian as Commander of the Phoenix Legion, yet he knows that he does not possess the patience nor the fighting ability to control Dalarian's ragtag army.

Kaendros, Blood Elf, Leader of the Outland Brigade

Age: 934

Nation of Origin: Southeastern Quel'Thalas

In his youth, Kaendros fought against the trolls and goblins that threatened the borders of his kingdom, Quel'Thalas.

He was nearly killed during a sortie against the Horde during the Second War, to which afterwards he put down his sword and toke to a more peaceful life.

However when the Scourge invaded Quel'Thalas some years later, he could not standby while his land was defiled and he swiftly returned to his warrior life. Though despite his valor, Quel'Thalas was overrun.

Fleeing the ransacking of his homeland, Kaendros quickly joined the force led by Kael'thas and fought with him through his trials in Lordaeron and Outland. Kaendros honed his fighting skills, and toke an affinity for magic, during his tribulations.

When Kael made ready to head for Northrend, he sent Kaendros along with a small contingent to the aid of Dalarian in the mountains in the hope of cleansing southern Lordaeron from the taint of the Scourge.
